I was intrigued more than anything to see Life of Pi during the semester break. As expected, the movie was not only magnificent but inspiring.

For colleagues who haven't yet watched the movie, Life of Pi tells the story of Pi Patel. While Pi became attracted to various religions and the meaning of life, he survived from a sinking freighter during his trip to Canada. Alone above the ocean, he captained a lifeboat with four animals for 227 days where he confronted thirst and starvation, endured and wondered at a mighty storm, found a modus vivendi with the fierce tiger… Click here to watch the trailer.

While the form is a story within a story, there's so much going on in this film, and I trust each person will get a different experience from it and have different stimulated thoughts as to what they think everything means.

To me, Life of Pi assimilates my journey as a college lecturer to a certain extent. Having enthusiastically joined HKCC years ago, I was engrossed in teaching with great, if not full, passion. Despite occasional storms and wonders in work, I experienced luminous jellyfish (students and colleagues) that illuminated my night. This journey was and is still a test of physique, courage, mental adaptation and faith, but thankfully, I survive in this grand adventure so far.

At the commencement of a new semester, let's continue making a magnificent story in our teaching journey. Last but not least, wish you all a wonderful and fascinating year of the Snake!
