HOW TO MANAGE MY TIME BETTER?

Examination seems to be a nervous and a tough time for majority of students. Teachers are aware that majority of students always encounter time management issues for their study or examination. Although many students have more than 6 years experiences in examinations, some students still find themselves in a difficult position in mastering their time management for examination or may not be able to find a suitable approach to handle their revision plan.

Generally speaking, compared to the previous AL students, DSE students are about one year younger or they have one year less learning experiences when they further their study in HKCC. Therefore, teachers may consider taking a more proactive approach to guide students' time management skills before examination.

The following is a simple real-life arrangement but it has successfully encouraged students to learn proactively and in a more systematic and timely manner. Students are generally passive in terms of learning or asking questions. As a result, they were advised to start revising book chapters and notes during the last 3 weeks of the planned teaching schedules after the mid-term test. It is interesting to discover that the students actually followed the suggested study patterns given by the subject lecturer to carry out the revisions and consult their teacher within the assigned period of time below.

For example:
Week 11 – revision of 3 topics
Week 12 – revision of 3 topics
Week 13 – revision of 3 topics

Remarks:
1)Sincere thanks to Ms. Fione Chiu for her sharing of revision ideas with Pamela.
2)The above arrangements may require additional consultation hours because more students will be engaged in face-to-face consultation with the subject lecturer.

With regards to time management of students, the following 8-step approach is suggested for your students' references:

  1. Organize Your Time
  2. Assess Your Time
  3. Set Your Priorities
  4. Make a Schedule
  5. Use a Calendar
  6. Use Review Cards
  7. Plan Activities Logically
  8. Plan Some Down Time

Furthermore, two templates are suggested for your students to use. They are basic and simple tools for students to manage their time in a more effective manner.

  1. Mater to Do List – What do I need to do?
  2. To Do List – What to do today?
