Horticulture is the planting of flowers, fruits or vegetables. It is an art, a science and a craft. It is an art because one enjoys the shape, the size, and the color of the flowers, the leaves or the branches of the plants. It is a science because one has to learn about the soils, the plants, the insects and the diseases. It is also a craft because one has to work hard under the sun with their hands. To be a good plant-person, one need to water his/her plants often and worry about the environment of his/her plants all the time. It might not be easy, but one gets the joy when s/he finds his/her plants grow, change or harvest. Many researches show that horticulture is good for health and it helps releasing the pressure of urban life like people who live in Hong Kong.
It is good to find many teachers and students of HKCC like horticulture, and our school allows us to plant at different corners of the campus. To me, horticulture is a good learning and teaching process of nature and life, and maybe we should have more complementary courses on horticulture.
