Congratulations to Cheng Chun-hin, Tsui Tsz-kin, and Wu Lok-yi, year-two students of Associate in Design (Environment and Interior Design), on winning the Championship (College Group) in the 10th Social Innovation Inventor Design Competition organised by the World Green Organisation (WGO).

The competition aimed to cultivate environmental awareness among young people. The participating students took the proposed government project of the Kau Yi Chau Artificial Islands as a blueprint and incorporated the concepts of energy efficiency, green building, comfort, convenience, and innovative technology. They designed a set of facilities for "Smart mobility" to transform the Kau Yi Chau Artificial Islands into an accessible, sustainable, and people-centric smart green city so as to achieve carbon neutrality goals.

The entries in this competition were outstanding, each with its own merits. The winning teams were chosen after rigorous selection by the judging panel based on seven aspects: creative concept, spatial utilisation, equipment arrangements, environmental conservation concept, energy efficiency, functional application, and feasibility.

Chun-hin, Tsz-kin, and Lok-yi won the Championship with their project titled "Ecological Island". True to its name, the project aims to transform Kau Yi Chau Artificial Islands into an artificially intelligent and sustainable development district, with a focus on transportation convenience. It includes a comprehensive network of railways, electric public transportation vehicles, shared electric bicycles, and water transportation to facilitate the movement of residents on the island. The project also incorporates renewable energy integration, intelligent monitoring systems, and environmental education activities. The "Ecological Island" is an intelligent green city that offers accessibility and safety.
