Students Participate in Frutus Charity Event

Seventeen students from the Division of Business and Hospitality Management participated in the UNESCO Volunteer for Peace Programme.

A beach cleaning event was organised by the Rotaract Club of HKCC Students’ Union on 6 March 2021 in Shek O.

Twenty-seven HKCC students and board members of the Rotaract Club of HKCC Students’ Union participated in the Rotaract Leadership Training held at PolyU West Kowloon Campus on 10 October 2020.

Fifteen HKCC students participated in a community service activity organised by the Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island East on 2 October 2020.

Eight HKCC students who joined the Wofoo Outstanding Student Citizen Awards organised a series of activities for the elderly and primary and secondary students in Kowloon Tong and Lam Tin in early and mid-January 2020. These community services helped enhance our students’ generic skills such as communication, team building, organisation, leadership and problem solving skills.

Eleven HKCC students joined the Wofoo Outstanding Student Citizen Awards 2019/20 -Leadership Training Camp on 9 and 10 November 2019. Through organising training activities for 169 primary and secondary school students, our students enhanced their communication, team building, organisation, leadership and problem solving skills, etc.

Thirty HKCC students joined the Wofoo Together We Serve Carnival on 2 November 2019. Through organising more than ten games and workshops for 45 disabled persons and newly-arrived primary school students in Cheung Sha Wan, our students enhanced their team building skills and ethical knowledge.

Seven students joined a community service activity held by Wofoo Together We Serve on 19 October 2019. Through organising a series of workshops and games with the disabled in Sham Shui Po, our students have enhanced their team building skills and ethical knowledge.

Seven students joined the Wofoo Together We Serve 2019 organised by Wofoo Leaders’ Network for community services on 28 September 2019. Through organising a series of workshops and games for the disabled in Sham Shui Po, our students have enhanced their team building skills and ethical knowledge.

Four students joined the Wofoo Outstanding Student Citizen Awards 2018/19 for community services on 28 September 2019. Through visiting and organising activities for primary and secondary school students, our student volunteers have enhanced their generic skills such as communication, team building, organisation, leadership and problem-solving skills.

Thirty-six HKCC students and board members of the Rotaract Club of the HKCC Students’ Union took part in the Rotaract Leadership Training on 21 September 2019 on PolyU West Kowloon Campus. Mr Gilbert Fung, President of the Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island East and Dr Eric Chin, Past District Governor of Rotary International 3450, gave encouraging words to the participants. This event also featured the leadership and team building activities coordinated by trainers from the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong -New Territories Centre. The training helped strengthen students’ communication skills and improve their leadership skills to better serve both the club and the community.

The eighth Rotaract Club of the HKCC Students’ Union was installed by Mr Gilbert Fung, President of the Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island East, on 7 September 2019 at PolyU West Kowloon Campus. Over 50 honourable guests witnessed our 12 student board members being pinned.

“Wofoo Student-Initiated Community Service Project Funding Scheme: Social Harmony Carnival” was conducted on 24 July 2019. This project aimed to enhance the cultural integration between ethnic minorities and the locals. Twenty-two HKCC students were invited to serve as mentors for 23 ethnic minority children during the activity. Various team activities and a 120 minutes’ campus hunt were organised for the participants to collaborate with each other and overcome cultural barriers.

Jointly organised by HKCC and Hong Kong Red Cross, the six-day “Voluntary Teaching and Community Service in Heyuan” was launched on 2 June 2019. A total of 28 students participated in the trip and provided services for the deprived primary students and local community. The trip gave our student helpers more opportunities to enhance their leadership skills, creativity and personal development along with their devotion towards the needy. The student participants paid home visits, conducted classroom teaching, and organised a mass function with various game tasks. They also gave souvenirs to local primary school students. A post-trip sharing session was held on 26 June for them to share and reflect on what they have experienced and learnt during the service trip.

Organised by the Rotaract Club of HKCC Students’ Union and coordinated by Shatin Rhenish Neighbourhood Elderly Centre, a visit to elderly people living alone in a public housing estate in Shatin was held on 2 March 2019. A group of more than 20 students together with Dr Eric Chin, Past District Governor of Rotary International District 3450, participated in this activity to understand more about the daily needs and health concerns of single elderly persons.

Sixteen students joined the “Serve with a Purpose – Graffiti” activity co-organised by CPCE Volunteer Network, Wofoo Social Enterprises, and Wofoo Leaders’ Network from February to March 2019. Through organising a series of graffiti workshops for new arrivals from the Chinese mainland, our students enhanced their team building and leadership skills, cultivated their embracing mind, and also built up their interest in graffiti art.

To show encouragement and support to children and the youth, eight board members of the Rotaract Club of HKCC Students’ Union participated as volunteer helpers in the Rookie Stars Dance Contest 2019 held at PolyU Hung Hom Bay Campus on 24 February 2019. CPCE Dean Prof. Peter Yuen was invited as a VIP guest in the Kick-off Ceremony. Organised by Rotary District 3450, this annual contest accepted contestants from primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong as well as international dance teams from other countries, providing a platform for hip-hop dancers to show their talent.

Forty-eight students from Associate in Business joined the 7th UNESCO Peacemaker’s Cultural Celebration 2019 as helpers at Hong Kong Science Park on 23 and 24 February 2019. Being one of the flagship events of UNESCO HK, the activity promoted peace and cultural diversity; it also offered a platform for different age groups to experience and discover culture. Our trained student helpers participated in different voluntary roles such as emcees, event administrators, booth and exhibition attendants, team leaders and guest receptionists. This event enabled them to develop a sense of good citizenship through promoting “intercultural dialogues and cultural discovery to engender harmony and mutual understanding” to the public.

Eleven HKCC students joined the Wofoo Outstanding Student Citizen Awards for a series of community services from September 2018 to February 2019. Through visits and seminars, our students enhanced their communication, team building, organisation, leadership and problem solving skills. Around 400 primary and secondary students were nurtured to become responsible citizens through a wide range of activities with the core values of respect, inclusiveness, love, care and responsibility.

Organised by the Rotaract Club of the HKCC Students’ Union, the community service of visiting The Salvation Army Chuk Yuen Centre for Senior Citizens was successfully held on 6 October 2018. With the honourable participation of Dr Eric Chin, Past District Governor of Rotary International 3450, 21 HKCC students brought much joy to the elderly by playing some games, doing simple exercises and Taichi, and chit-chatting with them. The students spent a meaningful afternoon and gained hands-on experience of serving the elderly.

Twenty-nine students joined an activity organised by the “Wofoo Together We Serve 2018” of Wofoo Leaders’ Network in mid-October 2018. Through organising a series of art workshops for students from special schools, our student volunteers enhanced their team building skills and understanding of students with special educational needs.

Yau Pak-ho, a year-one student of Associate in Design (Advertising Design) and a member of Civil Aid Service Cadet Corps, received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Commander, Mr Chan Chun-hing, for his efforts and contributions to the community work after the massive devastation caused by Typhoon Mangkhut in September 2018. An Appreciation Letter was also sent to HKCC, praising Pak-ho’s outstanding contributions to the community.

With the honourable presence of District Governor Y.C. Ho of Rotary International District 3450, the 7th Rotaract Club of the HKCC Students’ Union was installed by President Gilbert Fung of Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island East on 4 August 2018. Over 70 honourable guests witnessed our 15 student board members being pinned and initiated into the Rotaract family.
