BAFS Talk Series: Bringing Theory to Practice


To help students gain a better understanding of the accounting profession, a “BAFS Talk Series: Bringing Theory to Practice” will be held by Hong Kong Community College (HKCC) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University for Secondary 4-6 students.  

Outline of the Talk

(a) Bringing theory to practice – an understanding of the accounting profession

  • Professional accountants in practice & professional accountants in business
  • An understanding of the services provided by a professional accounting firm
  • An understanding of other career opportunities for accountants

(b) Key attributes of a successful professional accountant

(c) Paths to become a professional accountant

About the Speaker

Mr Raymond Poon

Partner, Assurance – Financial Services Practice, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Hong Kong

Raymond is a partner in PwC’s financial services practice in Hong Kong. He has over 20 years of professional experience primarily in Hong Kong with a 2-year secondment in London (2004-2006). He provides both assurance and advisory services to a wide range of financial services clients involved in banking, insurance, securities and capital markets as well as asset management. Raymond has accumulated experience in addressing the needs, opportunities and challenges which his clients are facing during the transformation and expansion of their business. Raymond is also experienced in statutory and regulatory reporting reviews in Hong Kong. He has led different types of examinations commissioned by the regulators and other advisory projects in different areas including controls over loan lending, compilation of regulatory reporting and new business and product developments.
