Dr Tam Suet-yan received her bachelor’s degree (majoring in Psychology and minoring in Journalism and Communication), master of philosophy (Psychology/ Gender Studies), and PhD (Gender Studies) from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Her research interests lie mainly in causes of violence against women, perceptions of spousal abuse, health psychology and positive youth development. She has published research papers in international journals and conference proceedings.

Before joining HKCC, Dr Tam was a lecturer in the College of International Education of Hong Kong Baptist University. She has taught a wide range of psychology subjects, including Introduction to Psychology, Social Psychology, Psychology of Personality, and Research Methods in Psychology. She has also worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Social Work of CUHK, where she was responsible for the project “P.A.T.H.S. to Adulthood: A Jockey Club Youth Enhancement Scheme”. During that period, she also served as a part-time lecturer in the School of Continuing and Professional Studies of CUHK.

Dr Tam is enthusiastic about teaching young people, she regards it as meaningful, enjoyable and challenging. She is more than willing to show her helping hand to students.

In her leisure, she enjoys practicing yoga, learning Western embroidery and cross-stitching.
