After graduating from the Industrial Engineering Faculty of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Dr Kingie Mak Kam-king joined the Information Technology Services Department of the Hong Kong Government as a system analyst, working in the area of application development for computer systems. At the same time, she also spent time helping her family's companies, a development which eventually led to her devoting full time to those duties in the capacity of managing director.

Then, Dr Mak acquired a Master in Business Administration and worked as a senior business consultant before taking up teaching management subjects in a vocational training school.

After acquiring a Master of Science in Electronic Commerce and Internet Computing, Dr Mak worked as a part-time tutor for the module of Strategic Issues in Management for the Asia-Pacific Region at The Open University of Hong Kong, and as an Executive Director in a medical organisation. Then she joined HKCC as a college lecturer to teach Information Technology and Globalisation Business.

Dr Mak was further awarded a Doctor of Business Administration by the University of Southern Australia.

In the past 20 years, Dr Mak has devoted much time to voluntary work. She has been the president, chairperson, or committee member of various associations, district services, and the Hong Kong Government Advisory Committee.
