  • Accounting & Finance

Dr Chiu got her Bachelor of Arts (Spec. Hons.) in Economics and Business with Member of the Dean's Honour Roll from York University (Toronto) and Master of Economics from The University of Hong Kong. She further pursued studies at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University where she received the Master of Arts in English Language Teaching and Doctor of Business Administration. Her research interests lie in the area of organisational leadership, empowerment and employee well-being.

Prior to joining HKCC, Dr Chiu taught Economics and English Language in secondary schools for several years. Then, she worked as a lecturer of a tertiary education institute and served as a campus coordinator for nexus-wide projects.

Since joining HKCC, Dr Chiu has been responsible for teaching and developing Economics subjects. She has been the subject leader of a core Economics subject since 2008. Apart from teaching, Dr Chiu is the Assistant Programme Leader of Associate in Business (8C108-NS) and the Chairperson of the Study Guide Committee.

Because of her excellence in teaching, Dr Chiu was awarded the CPCE Outstanding Teaching Award in 2013 and the HKCC Outstanding Teaching Award (Merit of Honourable Mention) in 2012, 2011, and 2009.

Dr Chiu always finds the subject of economics important, multi-faceted, interesting and useful. She believes that “teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross, then having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create bridges of their own to pursue their goal” (Nikos Kazantzakis, 1883-1957) and she supports lifelong learning.
